the other day i was uploading some new songs to my empeg, when my little brother ran in and accidentaly kicked the power cable out of my empeg, in the middle of this process, now when i try to start it it stops at "building music databases", I have left it alone for a while because i can hear the hd doing something but after a while i hear it stop... I have about 76gb of music on it and dont want to loose it... does anybody have an idea or know what to do???

This is in the faq. You could search on "building".

Specifically, if you search the FAQ for 'Building Music Databases', the exact text of the message on your player screen, it comes up as the first item in the search results. When following the instructions there, make sure to follow the sub-links as well. Read through the steps carefully, don't rush it.

heres what i get when i connect to it through hyperterminal, also i followed the instructions and I get no response from the commands i try:
Reboot the player, and after the player software starts, press q (enter) to get to a shell prompt.
You should be at a shell prompt now. Enter:
rwm (There will be a long pause)
rm /drive0/var/database
rm /drive0/var/database3
rm /drive0/var/tags
rm /drive0/var/playlists
rm /drive1/var/database
rm /drive1/var/database3
rm /drive1/var/tags
rm /drive1/var/playlists
(Note that some of those RM commands will not work, that's OK)
exit
(The player application will run and rebuild the databases; watch the screen and wait until it is done, then q out of it again...)
q
(This should exit the player application back to the shell prompt.)
rom
exit

I can't seem to see anything in that attachment.
Perhaps paste your text responses into a message instead of attaching them?
Main thing to do is to read each of the sub-links carefully, especially the parts right BEFORE the shell prompt instructions you just quoted. These are the prerequisites, such as making sure you're running the developer build, and getting hyperterminal working.

Looks okay to me...

The filesystem has been corrupted. Thats why it's unable to rebuild the database.

Bizarrely, if I click on it in IE, I get a blank page. If I then select View Source, I can see the log file.
But, to the original question: yes -- the filesystem is badly corrupted. See this FAQ entry for details on how to deal with that.

There is an extra carriage return on each line. Maybe that is confusing IE?

Yeah, that's one of the sub-links in the "Building Music Databases" FAQ entry. But he wouldn't have gotten there until he saw the E2FSCK error. And the problem is that I don't think he's getting that far, because he's not able to get to a shell prompt because Q isn't working for him. At least that's the impression I got.
Oldtown: Try CTRL-C instead of Q.
I'll update those two FAQ entries about databases and FSCK to add a note about CTRL-C.

Not your fault, the FAQ didn't mention Ctrl-C, an oversight on my part. Does now. Glad you're working.
